The Iglulik Inuit make up a homogenous cultural group who inhabit the periphery of Northern Baffinland and the extreme east of the Northwest Territories in the Canadian Arctic. This people of hunters and fishers lived for a long time in igloos on land or on ice. Since the Canadian government’s systematic resettlement of Nordic peoples into villages in the early 1960s, their way of life has gone from normadic to sedentary. Since then the Inuit have lived in fabricated houses. The recordings on this album were made in 1964, 1976, 1977 and 1985 in the villages of Pond Inlet, Iglulik and Arctic Bay.
